Somewhere in Northern Nigeria, a mother made it to a clinic in time. Somewhere in Nairobi, a child got medical attention their family couldn't afford a year ago. Somewhere in a village outside Dhaka, Bangladesh, someone's son is alive today because our volunteers knew where to go and didn't hesitate to help.
That is what “5,000 lives saved” actually means at Helpster. Not a report. Not just a KPI. 5,000 children and young adults who are still here, still loved, and still living their lives because, when they needed care, we reached them.
For 5,000 people who couldn't afford essential medical treatment, Helpster connected them with donors who could help. Through our technology, donors saw the story, medical records and hospital documentation behind each case, while our teams verified patients, monitored treatment and ensured funds reached our partner hospitals where they were needed. For 5,000 people, we made the journey from donation to patient's treatment visible, accountable and, ultimately, verifiably measurable in impact.
But every milestone like this hides a story of effort you can't see. So we asked the people closest to Helpster what “5,000 lives saved” really means to them: our country teams on the ground, and the two people who turned Helpster from an idea into what it is today — our founder and our CEO.
“I stopped thinking of this as a programme a long time ago. I remember a mother who had been in labour for over ten hours at home, with no antenatal care and no way to call for help. By the time she reached us through our partner hospital, she was bleeding, weak, and her baby was already in distress. That wasn't just one life on the line. It was hers, her unborn child's, and the two children under five waiting for her at home who depended on her for everything.”

And sadly, we also see women who present so late that we cannot save their babies. If they had the funding to get to a hospital earlier, they could have been monitored and properly linked to safe delivery care. We know we could save more.”
In Kenya, the milestone came from something less dramatic but just as hard: showing up every single day, for years.
“People think saving lives looks like heroics. 5,000 is not just a number. These are 5,000 lives. Behind every Helpster Charity case is a child, a family, and often a story of someone who almost gave up hope of ever receiving the healthcare they needed.”
She continued: “Finding these patients is not always easy. Some live in the deepest, most underserved communities, far from healthcare facilities. Others have lived with illness for so long that they have stopped believing help will ever come. Helpster Charity reaches those who might otherwise have been left behind, giving them access to life-saving and life-changing healthcare. 5,000 lives reached. 5,000 reasons to keep going.”
“We don't get to choose easy”
Bangladesh brought floods, distance, landslides and a level of difficulty most organisations quietly avoid. Our team didn't.
“There were weeks we lost the roads, and communication completely,” our Bangladesh Country Manager, MD Shahidullah, remembers. “You improvise. You use boats, or wooden bridges; you use whatever gets you there. Nobody on my team ever asked if it was worth it. They asked how to get there faster next time. I think that says everything about who we are.”
“This number has a face for me, and it's not mine”
Nikita Kuzmin, the Founder who started Helpster from almost nothing: “I know from personal experience what it means to lose a child. I run this project so less and less of this pain is spread through our planet. I believe together we can solve this problem for good.”
Kate Lysykh, our CEO, has spent the last 3 years turning that instinct into something that actually works at scale without losing what made it human in the first place.
“Every one of those 5,000 patients represents a real person who needed care, and I care deeply about making sure we get that right,” Kate says. “We've built rigorous checks into our process because we have a responsibility to know that the cases we support are genuine and that every dollar is going where it should. Reaching 5,000 patients is a huge milestone, but it's not the finish line. It gives us confidence in what we've built, and a responsibility to keep improving it, so we can reach many more people without ever compromising on trust.”
This Is the Part Where We Ask You For Something
Every one of those 5,000 people was reached because someone cared: a doctor, a volunteer, a donor who believed even a small contribution could matter. We're not stopping at this mark. Our goal is to support 10,000 patients by the end of the year.
