Fortune is 6 y.o who stays with her grandmother in the village . Both of her parents are alive but they are always moving from one village to the other, one town to another in search of temporary jobs like in building and construction where they can get something small for the family. Fortune depends on her grandmother who is a farmer. She is in grade II and she would like to be a teacher when she grows up. Her aim is to study harder so that in future she may help her parents who are poor, so that her parents can settle in the home and not move from village to village in a bid to earn a living. She likes farming with her grandmother.
Fortune has had diarrhea and vomiting, also had a high grade fever for the past 4 days. 2 days ago she also begun complaining of headache, easy fatigability, poor appetite with persistent vomiting, unable to retain any meals that she eats.
“This is my matrimonial home, where I live with my husband, Fortune’s grandfather. Our son does not have a stable source of income and always has to move from one village or town to the next in search of some money. He normally goes with his wife. We found it wise to stay with Fortune here so that she does not have to change school whenever her parents move. Our house, as you can see, is not connected to electricity supply. Watching TV or listening to the radio is a luxury. We occasionally watch TV to get to know what is happening in the country at the neighbor's house. We walk more than 30mins to the water source which is a stream far down the village.”
