Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Sandra is a 9-year-old girl in Grade 5 who lives with her mother. She enjoys singing, loves eating ugali and beef, and dreams of becoming a doctor. Her mother is the family's sole breadwinner, earning about KSh 2,000 per month by selling utensils on commission, making it difficult to meet healthcare costs. Since May 2026, Sandra has experienced recurrent episodes of sudden fainting marked by loss of consciousness and muscle tone, each lasting about 20 minutes. The attacks occurred without warning, raising fears that she could collapse while crossing a river, walking near a fire, or in other dangerous situations. The unpredictable nature of the episodes left her family and community deeply concerned. She had no shaking or abnormal limb movements during the attacks. Following assessment, she was diagnosed with atonic seizures. An EEG was performed and was normal. Sandra was discharged with advice for close follow-up and instructed to return immediately should another emergency occur.

Prognosis

The Paeditrician reviewed the patient and recommended FHG, UECs and EEG. The doctor noted no neurological defects. The tests were normal and the Doctor advised the parent to observe the child if there would be any episodes of collapsing while they were at home. The patient was advised to call the facility number incase on any emergency regarding the same.
