Sumaiya Akter is an 8-month-old baby girl who had been healthy and playful until she suddenly developed a high fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and severe weakness. Her worried mother, Sabina (25), noticed fast breathing and chest indrawing, prompting the family to rush her to Saheda Gafur Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia and recommended immediate admission for lifesaving treatment. Sumaiya lives with her parents, her 3-year-old sister Amena Akter, and her grandparents, Abdur Razzak (60) and Maksuda (50). Her father, Ismail (28), is the family's only earning member and works as a day laborer, earning just BDT 8,000–9,000 per month, which is not enough to cover both daily household expenses and the cost of hospitalization. Without timely treatment, pneumonia could rapidly progress to severe respiratory failure, bloodstream infection, or even death, making financial assistance from Helpster Charity, introduced through volunteer Abdur Rahman, essential to save Sumaiya's life.

Doctors have explained that treatment with parenteral antibiotics and supportive care is essential to control the infection and stabilize Sumaiya Akter’s breathing. With timely and complete treatment, he is expected to recover fully, regain his strength, and continue his normal growth and development without long-term complications. Proper medical care will also prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of his body. However, if left untreated, pneumonia could rapidly worsen, leading to severe respiratory failure, bloodstream infection, or other life-threatening complications. Early intervention is therefore critical to protect his life and ensure a healthy future.
