Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Mariyam Akter is a gentle two-month-old baby girl who lives with her parents and older sister in a single rented room in Korail slum, where the family has no permanent home. Her father, Md. Awal Khan, earns approximately USD 102 per month through borrowed motorbike ride-sharing and rickshaw pulling, but most of his income is spent on rent and basic food, leaving the family unable to afford Mariyam’s medical care. Mariyam was admitted with acute watery diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and respiratory distress and was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, pneumonia, and severe acute malnutrition; she was lethargic, dehydrated, and breathing rapidly. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a neighboring family previously supported by Helpster (Patient ID: 4689), and timely hospitalization, IV fluids, and antibiotics were required to stabilize her condition. Without prompt treatment, severe dehydration, infection, and malnutrition could rapidly worsen in such a young infant, leading to respiratory failure, shock, organ dysfunction, and potentially life-threatening deterioration.

Prognosis

According to the treating doctor, IV fluid therapy is expected to correct Mariyam’s dehydration, while broad-spectrum antibiotics are expected to control the acute gastroenteritis and pneumonia. Albumin supplementation and supportive care are expected to improve her nutritional and overall clinical condition, with close monitoring needed because of her severe acute malnutrition. With timely treatment, she is expected to stabilize, improve her feeding and respiratory condition, and recover gradually. If left untreated, persistent diarrhea, dehydration, pneumonia, and severe malnutrition may rapidly worsen, leading to severe infection, respiratory failure, shock, organ dysfunction, and potentially life-threatening deterioration.
