Layek Islam is a cheerful and active 19-month-old boy who lives with his mother, maternal grandparents, and 13-year-old aunt in a five-member family. His mother is a homemaker, while his maternal grandfather, Abdur Rajjak (60), is the sole earner, working as a farmer and earning only about USD 49 per month, which is insufficient to meet the family’s basic needs and Layek’s medical expenses. Layek’s father does not live with them due to family issues, leaving the family dependent on the grandfather’s limited income while they live in a modest tin-roofed house with a mud floor. Layek developed fever, cough, cold, nasal blockage, and worsening respiratory distress and was admitted to Seba Hospital, where he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia; the family learned about Helpster Charity through a neighbour. Without timely treatment, his severe pneumonia may rapidly worsen, causing dangerously low oxygen levels, respiratory failure, severe infection, and potentially life-threatening complications.

According to the treating doctors, hospitalization, close monitoring, and conservative and supportive therapy are recommended to manage Layek Islam’s severe pneumonia. With timely treatment and close monitoring, his respiratory distress and lung infection are expected to improve, helping him recover safely and return to normal activities. If left untreated, severe pneumonia may progress to worsening respiratory distress, dangerously low oxygen levels, respiratory failure, and other serious complications. Therefore, timely hospital-based treatment is essential for Layek’s recovery and survival.
