Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Hauwa Ibrahim Yusuf is a 15-year-old girl who lives with her mother and eight siblings in a single-room home provided by a Good Samaritan. Her father is no longer present, leaving her mother to support the family on about ₦11,000 monthly. The family faces severe financial hardship, with no electricity and limited access to water. Despite these challenges, Hauwa remains cheerful and determined and dreams of becoming a nurse. Hauwa was brought to the hospital with a two-week history of progressive body swelling, which began around her eyes in the mornings and later spread to her face, lower limbs, and abdomen. She also developed reduced urine output and dark-coloured urine. Five days before admission, she developed progressive abdominal distension with mild right upper abdominal pain after meals. Three days before admission, she experienced two episodes of focal seizures involving her right upper limb. She had no previous history of seizures, fever, vomiting, or jaundice.

Prognosis

Prognosis wiith treatment is good. Post-streptococcal AGN in adolescents has 80-90% chance of complete recovery in 6-8 weeks if BP and edema are well controlled.
