Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

A 10-year-old girl dreams of becoming a doctor and enjoys drawing and playing with her younger siblings. She lives with her parents and grandparents in a seven-member family on government hill land in Jungle Salimpur, Sitakund, Chittagong, without owning a home. Her father runs a small mobile recharge shop, earning approximately USD 98–131 per month, while her mother is a homemaker; their limited income cannot cover the family’s basic needs and her expensive medical treatment. She suffers from severe breathlessness, recurrent chest infections, and poor growth due to congenital heart defects, including a large ventricular septal defect with high pulmonary pressure and Tetralogy of Fallot, requiring urgent stabilization and corrective open-heart surgery. Without treatment, she faces a risk of worsening oxygen deprivation, heart failure, life-threatening complications, and potentially death.

Prognosis

According to the treating specialist, hospitalization, medical optimization, and intracardiac repair surgery are required to manage the child’s large PMVSD, severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and Tetralogy of Fallot with MAPCAs. Timely treatment aims to improve cardiac function, reduce symptoms of breathlessness, and support growth and daily activities. Without appropriate treatment, her condition may progressively worsen, leading to severe oxygen deficiency, recurrent respiratory infections, heart failure, and potentially life-threatening complications. Specialist cardiac care is essential to improve her chances of recovery and long-term survival.
