Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Emmanuel is a shy but bubbly four-year-old boy who lives with his mother, two siblings. His father lives with the family but is often away working as a sound engineer, earning about ₦15,000 when he gets a contract. Emmanuel attends day school and enjoys spending time with his family. At about six months old, his mother noticed that his scrotum looked different from his brother’s, with what felt like a small lump or “seed.” The swelling gradually increased, but the family could not afford medical care. Following assessment, Emmanuel was diagnosed with a left inguinal hernia and an umbilical hernia and requires surgical treatment.

Prognosis

With timely surgical repair, the prognosis is excellent. Elective left herniotomy and umbilical herniorrhaphy will permanently obliterate the hernia sac, reinforce abdominal wall integrity, directly eliminate the threat of intestinal strangulation and severe pain, and ensure long-term health, normal physical development, and an improved quality of life. If left untreated, an inguinal or umbilical hernia may gradually enlarge and become painful or trapped, potentially causing bowel obstruction, tissue damage, and other serious complications.
