Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

The patient is a 3-year-old girl living with her parents and two elder sisters, aged 18 and 12, in a family of five. Her father works in agriculture, earning approximately USD 73 per month, which makes it difficult to cover household necessities, his daughters' education, and medical expenses. Previously healthy, the child suddenly developed frequent watery diarrhoea and abdominal pain, prompting her family to seek medical care. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with acute watery diarrhoea with severe dehydration and required prompt treatment to prevent further deterioration. Due to their limited income, the family struggles to afford her medical care, and without timely treatment, severe dehydration could lead to shock, organ damage, or death.

Prognosis

Hospitalization with proper hydration and supportive therapy is expected to restore Tasmia’s fluid and electrolyte balance, improve her weakness and overall condition, and support recovery from acute watery diarrhea. With timely treatment and close monitoring, she is expected to stabilize and gradually return to normal feeding and daily activities. If left untreated, severe dehydration may worsen rapidly, causing electrolyte imbalance, reduced blood circulation, shock, altered consciousness, kidney dysfunction, and other potentially life-threatening complications. Timely treatment is therefore essential to prevent further deterioration and support a safe recovery.
