Leon J., 9

Leon is a 9-year-old boy from a modest background in a rural community. He is the second-born among five siblings. His family depends on their father, who earns about 3,000 shillings a month as a casual laborer on nearby farms, to meet their basic needs and pay for school fees. Leon is a dedicated and hardworking student currently in Grade 4 at a local day school. He aspires to become a doctor one day. Leon lives with sickle cell disease. He recently visited the health facility during a crisis, complaining of widespread body pain, especially in the lower back, chest, and joints. This was not his first experience—he had a similar episode three months ago.

Leon, a known sickle cell anemia patient, was diagnosed with malaria and also had moderate anemia. He received treatment that included antibiotics, antimalaria rehydration fluids, and medication for sickle cell management. Once his condition stabilized, he was discharged from the hospital to continue treatment at home.During a follow-up call from a Helpster volunteer, his mother expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the quality care and support provided by Helpster Charity.Leon is doing well now.

Leon was given drugs and proper medication ,If sickle cell anemia could have left untreated, it could have experience a range of serious complications, including chronic pain, increased risk of infections, organ damage, and reduced life expectancy. These complications can significantly impact quality of life and shorten lifespan.
