Why is treatment done earlier than admission?
Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
Ruma Akter, a 2-month-old premature baby, has been diagnosed with severe Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, requiring urgent Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections to prevent permanent blindness. Her father, Monir Ahmed, is a day labourer earning only 7000 Taka per month, supporting a family of five, including Ruma’s two school-aged sisters. The family lives in extreme financial hardship and cannot afford the cost of this critical treatment. Ruma is a fragile, quiet infant who has already faced health challenges due to her premature birth. Without immediate medical intervention, she is at high risk of irreversible retinal damage and lifelong visual impairment or blindness.
Medical history
Ruma Akter, a 1-month-old baby, urgently needed treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to protect her vision. She was treated with Anti-VEGF injections by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was successfully administered, bringing the abnormal blood vessel growth under control and improving her retinal condition. With ongoing follow-up, there is strong hope that Ruma will be able to see clearly. Heartfelt thanks to Helpster Charity and the Helpster Heroes for their generous support in giving Ruma the gift of sight. Thank You Note from Mother: Nazma Begum, mother of Ruma Akter, expressed her sincere gratitude to Helpster for supporting her daughter’s treatment. She shared how worried the family was about Ruma’s vision and how relieved they are after the successful care. “You have given my child a new chance at life,” she said with deep emotion. “Thank you, Helpster, for standing by families like ours in our time of need.”
Outcome
Ruma Akter, a 1-month-old premature infant, has been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, categorized as Zone 2 with Plus Disease. This stage of ROP is considered serious, as it involves abnormal blood vessel growth along with increased vascular activity, which significantly raises the risk of retinal detachment and permanent vision impairment. To address this, the recommended treatment involves intravitreal Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes. This is an established and urgent intervention aimed at halting the abnormal vascular development and maintaining the structural integrity of the retina.
