Caren is a 1 year and 6-month-old girl, the second-born among four siblings. Her father is the sole breadwinner for the family of six, working under difficult conditions to provide basic needs. They live in a remote village without access to electricity, rely on a nearby stream for water, and use a pit latrine—all of which increase the risk of infections, especially among children. About five days ago, Caren was diagnosed with malaria and treated with a single dose of artesunate followed by a three-day course of artemether-lumefantrine (AL). However, her condition did not fully improve. She was brought back to the facility with persistent fever, poor appetite, a cough, and noticeable oral lesions. Laboratory tests including blood smear for malaria and full hemogram (FHG) were conducted. The doctor’s evaluation revealed that Caren had a low hemoglobin level of 8.6g/dl, indicating anemia.

Caren was was diagnosed with Moderate Aneamia,oral thrush and septicemia, received the needed treatment, and improved. The tests were done to rule out any other form of infection before she was put on treatment for the conditions. She responded well to treatment. Caren was treated and if the condition could have remain untreated septicemia, bacterial pneumonia, and oral thrush can be very serious, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems. Septicemia, or blood poisoning, is a life-threatening condition where the body's response to infection damages its own tissues and organs. Bacterial pneumonia can cause significant lung damage and difficulty breathing. Oral thrush, caused by the fungus Candida, can become systemic and spread to other organs if left untreated, potentially leading to sepsis or septic shock.
