Duncan K., 18

Duncan Kemboi is an 18-year-old boy living with a disability since birth. Despite his challenges, Duncan has a remarkable spirit and takes pride in helping his mother with household chores, especially washing utensils and doing laundry. He also enjoys playing football with his peers at the deaf and blind school he attends. Currently, Duncan is enrolled in horticulture training, and his deep love for nature shows promise for a future as a dedicated forest caretaker. His passion for maintaining a clean environment has made him a positive and hopeful presence in his community. Duncan has cerebral palsy but has generally remained in good health. Recently, however, he was brought to Tionycare Hospital after experiencing persistent vomiting, epigastric pain, bloating, and a loss of appetite. He had previously received care at Baringo County Referral Hospital, but his condition deteriorated when his father, due to financial constraints, was unable to purchase the prescribed medication.

A patient with cerebral palsy presented to the hospital with epigastric pain, vomiting, and reduced appetite. On admission, his blood pressure was very low due to severe dehydration caused by persistent vomiting. He was diagnosed with worsened peptic ulcer disease and severe dehydration. Treatment included administration of omeprazole to manage the ulcers and intravenous fluids to restore hydration. He responded well to treatment and was later discharged. Counseling was provided on factors that can aggravate ulcers. A follow-up phone call confirmed that he is now doing well. The family is thankful to Helpster Charity for their help.

Peptic ulcer disease is treatable. And with a combination of antibiotics, we are optimistic Duncan will get well. A times if the condition is not treated well and on time sometimes it may lead to cancer of the stomach. With proper care and treatment at Tionycare Hospital, there is hope that Duncan will recover and resume his everyday activities with renewed strength.
