Seraphine A., 30

Seraphine is married to a peasant farmer, and together they live with their two children in a modest two-room mud house. She also practices small-scale farming, mainly to grow food for the family. When she's not busy with household chores or tending the farm, Seraphine enjoys taking short naps, saying she uses any opportunity to rest since her days are usually packed with work. She recounts that her health concerns began with persistent headaches and repeated episodes of vomiting. Assuming she was unwell, she visited a health facility, where she discovered she was pregnant. Since then, she has attended five antenatal care (ANC) visits, each requiring a 30-minute walk to the clinic. At seven months pregnant, Seraphine began experiencing intense lower back pain and went to the hospital. Upon examination, she was found to have elevated blood pressure, and her baby showed signs of distress. She was initially scheduled for an emergency cesarean section, but after responding positively to treatment, the medical team decided to postpone the procedure and allow her to carry the pregnancy to term.

Seraphine came to the hospital with a complaint of lower back pain. Tests done revealed that she had high blood pressure and her baby was in distress. She was immediately admitted and was slotted to have an emergency cesarean surgery, but she responded well to medication. She was duly discharged and encouraged to carry the child to term. The prognosis for peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is generally good, with most ulcers healing within a few weeks with appropriate treatment. However, recurrence is common, especially if the underlying cause, like H. pylori infection or NSAID use, is not addressed.
