Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

15 Lagos St, Maiduguri 600282, Borno, Nigeria

Background

Hauwa Habu is a 20 year old living with her siblings and her baby in Gwange, Maiduguri. She attends an Islamic school and spends her free time knitting caps which she sell to support herself and her family. A hardworking and caring young woman, Hauwa also helps with house chores, doing her best to support her family every day. Hauwa's sickness started few days ago when she had high fever and chills, making her too weak to carry out her daily tasks. Soon after, she started having stomach discomfort and felt drained from persistent fatigue and loss of appetite. A cough and difficulty breathing followed, making it hard for her to rest or stay active. As her condition worsened, her family sought medical attention to help her recover from these illnesses. On presentation at our hospital, he was evaluated and diagnosed with Malaria, Enteric Fever, and Acute Respiratory Tract Infection.

Medical history

Hauwa Habu Uba presented to the hospital on 13th June 2025 with symptoms of high-grade fever, chills, body pains, headache, cough, and general weakness, which had affected her daily activities and overall wellbeing. After thorough clinical evaluation and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with Malaria with Enteric (Typhoid) Fever and an Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), conditions that required prompt and coordinated medical care. Following confirmation of the diagnoses, Hauwa was commenced on appropriate treatment. She received antimalarial therapy with Amatem Forte and intramuscular E-mal injections to rapidly control the malaria infection. Paracetamol was administered to manage fever and body pains, while Ofloxacin was prescribed to effectively treat the enteric fever and associated bacterial infection. Supportive care and close nursing supervision were provided throughout her treatment period. Relevant laboratory investigations including Malaria Parasite test, PCV, and HVS/MCS were carried out to guide treatment and monitor her response. Hauwa responded well to treatment. Her fever resolved, respiratory symptoms improved significantly, and her strength and appetite gradually returned. By the end of her treatment and follow-up, she showed marked clinical improvement and was medically stable, with no complications observed. The total cost of Hauwa Habu Uba’s medical care amounted to ₦47,500.00, covering consultation, medications, injections, laboratory investigations, and nursing care. This entire bill was fully covered by Helpster Charity, whose timely support ensured that Hauwa received complete medical treatment without financial hardship. Hauwa Habu Uba and her family sincerely appreciate Helpster Charity for their generosity and compassion. Their intervention played a crucial role in her recovery and stands as a testament to the positive impact of charitable support in improving access to healthcare and restoring hope

Outcome

With early diagnosis and initiation of targeted antimalarial and antibacterial therapy, combined with supportive care for respiratory and systemic symptoms, the prognosis is generally favorable. Most patients experience clinical improvement within 48–72 hours of therapy initiation, with complete recovery anticipated in the absence of complications. However, delayed treatment or comorbidities may predispose to severe outcomes, underscoring the importance of prompt medical intervention and close monitoring.
