Why is treatment done earlier than admission?
Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
Umar Ali is a 15-month-old baby living with his parents in the densely populated gwange area of Maiduguri. He is a lively and playful child who spends much of his time with his siblings, filling their home with joy and laughter. His parents are dedicated to ensuring that all his daily needs are met, providing a loving and nurturing environment for him to grow and thrive. Umar began to fall sick when he developed a high, intermittent fever that left him weaker and irritable. He lost interest in feeding, became clingy, and cried more often. Soon, he started coughing and breathing rapidly, indicating an Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI). At the same time, he suffered from frequent watery stools and abdominal discomfort. On presentation at our facility, he was evaluated and diagnosed with Malaria, Acute Respiratory Tract Infection, and Enteric Fever.
Medical history
On the 16th of June, 2025, Umar Abubakar fell seriously ill, experiencing high fever, weakness, persistent cough, and stomach discomfort. His parents, worried about his condition, rushed him to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Upon examination, the doctors suspected malaria, an acute respiratory infection, and enteric fever. Laboratory tests, including Malaria Parasite (MP), Packed Cell Volume (PCV), and Widal test, confirmed these diagnoses. Umar was immediately started on a course of medications to fight the infections and support his recovery. He received Erythromycin to combat bacterial infection, Paracetamol for fever relief, Piriton for allergic symptoms, Artemether to treat malaria, and Astymin for vitamins and nutritional support. He also received an injection to help stabilize his condition. Throughout his treatment, Umar’s health gradually improved. His fever subsided, his appetite returned, and he regained his strength. The doctors monitored him carefully, ensuring that all signs of infection were resolving. Within a few days, he was stable and ready to continue his recovery at home. Umar’s journey back to health was made possible thanks to Helpster Charity, who generously settled his medical bills, covering consultations, medications, injections, and laboratory investigations. Their timely support ensured he received the best care without delay, contributing greatly to his swift recovery. By the time of discharge, Umar was healthy, cheerful, and back to his usual self, grateful for the care he received and the kindness of those who supported him.
Outcome
With early diagnosis and appropriate medical treatment, including antimalarial therapy, antibiotics, hydration, and supportive care, the prognosis for a young child with Malaria, ARI, and Enteric Fever is generally favorable. Most children recover fully within a short period. However, delays in treatment or complications can lead to serious outcomes, making early medical attention vital for a successful recovery.
