Mariam Ruha is a brave 7-year-old girl with big dreams of becoming a teacher, but her vision is rapidly worsening due to Congenital Cataract in her left eye. Her family, living in a small tin house with a pit latrine outside, struggles to meet their basic needs; her father, Mainuddin Bepary, works as a tailor earning only 6,000 Taka per month, while her mother, Fatema Begum, stays at home to care for the family. Despite her determination and love for reading, Mariam’s eyesight continues to decline, threatening her education and independence. If she doesn’t receive the surgery soon, costing BDT 40,500, she risks permanent blindness, which would shatter her hopes and limit her future forever.

Mariam Ruha, a 7-year-old child, needed cataract surgery in her left eye because the cataract was affecting her vision and daily activities, including her studies. The surgery was performed under local anesthesia by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital, with great care and precision. Rashedur Rahman Talukder, Senior Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Mariam’s eye can be successfully treated through prompt cataract surgery and lens implantation. The doctors have provided a positive prognosis, stating that with timely intervention, Mariam can regain functional vision in her left eye and significantly improve her quality of life. The surgery will not only help her continue her education but also enhance her independence and self-esteem. If left untreated, however, the vision loss will become permanent, and she may face emotional and social isolation due to her compounded physical limitations.
