Tasnim Akter is a lively 3-year-old girl full of curiosity and joy, but her world is slowly darkening due to Congenital Cataract in her right eye. Her family, living in a small tin house with a monthly income of only 5,000 Taka, struggles to meet their basic needs; her father, Hasan Gazi, a farmer earning barely enough to support them, her mother, Lovely Begum, who stays at home, her 70-year-old grandfather Tajul Islam Gazi who is disabled after an accident, her 50-year-old grandmother Amena Begum, and her 5-year-old sister Sadiatul Juma. Despite her bright spirit and love for play, Tasnim’s vision has deteriorated so much that she now bumps into things and struggles to see clearly. If she doesn’t receive the urgent BDT 40,500 surgery soon, she risks permanent blindness, which would rob her of her childhood wonder and limit her future forever.

Tasnim Akter, a 3 year-old cute girl, was suffering from a cataract in her Right eye, which caused blurred vision and difficulty in daily activities. To restore her sight, she underwent successful cataract surgery with the implantation of an intraocular lens under general anesthesia, performed by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant of the Hospital. The surgery was completed smoothly, and her recovery progressed well. Tasnim’s visual acuity has significantly improved, and she can now see clearly again. According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Rashedur Rahman Talukder, Senior Consultant at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, the prognosis for Tasnim is highly favorable if surgery is performed promptly. The procedure will remove the clouded lens and replace it with an intraocular lens, allowing light to reach the retina and restore vision in her right eye. Post-surgery, Tasnim will require follow-up care, but she is expected to regain functional vision, enabling her to play, learn, and live like any other child. However, if delayed, the risk of irreversible blindness in her right eye is imminent, leading to lifelong disability and dependence.
