Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

YOBE STATE SPECIALIST HOSPITAL DAMATURU

Damaturu, Yobe State, 6 Gujba Road, Nigeria

Background

Muhammad is a calm child always smiling to people. Likes playing with his siblings. Mohammed presented with a week history of fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and a characteristic body rash which started on the face then later spread to the other body parts. Parents also noticed him to be having fast breathing. On presentation at our hospital, Ali was evaluated and diagnosed with Measles, a viral infection.

Medical history

Mohammed was admitted and managed as a case of measles complicated by Bronchopneumonia. Following the administration of parenteral antibiotics and other supportive measures, he responded well as presenting symptoms subsided. He was later discharged home with oral medications following the improvement of his condition to continue with his follow-up.

Outcome

Measles is treated with appropriate supportive measures and supplements. Antibiotics are used to clear complications like pneumonia. When the appropriate measures are taken in time, patients recover fully, however, when delayed or abandoned, patients can suffer from complications like blindness, or other complications from the pneumonia like respiratory failure.
