Carlos M., 4

Carlos is a 4 year old boy who would like to be a lawyer when he grows up. He has just begun school and likes carrying his school bag. He likes to watch cartoons. Carlos has been unwell for the past 3 days with cough and hotness of body. He has been treated and discharged on August 17th.

Carlos came to the hospital with a cough, fever, and vomiting whenever he ate, all symptoms he had been experiencing for three days. He loves watching cartoons, and his grandmother knew something was wrong when he didn't try to visit their neighbor's house to watch cartoons as usual. Carlos was diagnosed with pneumonia but was treated as an outpatient after tests confirmed no other infections. The treatment was successful, and during a follow-up home visit, volunteers from Helpster found Carlos happily watching cartoons at his neighbor's house. His mother shared that he was much better and expressed her gratitude towards Helpster Charity for their support in covering Carlos's medical expenses. Carlos’ mother says “I will never be able to express how much I appreciate how selflessly you assisted me. You are a big part of the reason I still have faith in humanity. I am grateful.”

Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
