Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Wizkid is the firstborn child of a teenage mother. He lives in a small, one-room mud house with his mother, grandmother, aunt, and uncle. Since his mother is still in school, the family relies entirely on his grandmother, who takes on casual labor jobs to provide for them. Wizkid's grandmother recalls noticing that her daughter was frequently unwell and that her complexion had grown paler. She often complained of fatigue and pain, so the grandmother gave her paracetamol. Sensing something was not right, she asked her daughter if she had been having her monthly periods, but the daughter initially insisted that she had. Eventually, she admitted to having missed her periods for two months. Concerned, the grandmother took her to a nearby health center, where it was confirmed that she was two months pregnant. In the following months, the teenage expectant mother attended antenatal care (ANC) clinics with the support of her mother, as the baby’s father was also still a student. One morning, after the grandmother had gone to fetch water from a nearby river, she returned to find her daughter lying on the ground in front of their house, experiencing severe lower back pain. She quickly called for a motorbike, which rushed them to the nearest health facility. There, the teenage girl gave birth prematurely at 23 weeks. Due to the delicate condition of the baby, they were referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for specialized care and management of the preterm infant.

Medical history

Wizkid was received as a referral from Usigu sub county hospital, he was born premature and he had neonatal jaundice and low birth weight. He was received and admitted into the Nursery for management where he stayed for over three weeks. During treatment he was put on oxygen therapy, X-pen and he responded well to treatment. He was discharged weighing 1620 kg an improvement from 1145kg when he was admitted.

Outcome

The prognosis for neonatal jaundice is generally excellent, with most cases resolving on their own within a couple of weeks. However, in rare cases, very high bilirubin levels can lead to brain damage (kernicterus). Prompt diagnosis and treatment, when necessary, are crucial to prevent complications.
