Fatima Adamu is a cheerful 1-year-old baby who brings joy and laughter to everyone around her. Despite being born into a poor family living in a small one-room apartment, her bright smile and playful spirit light up their world. Her presence gives her parents hope and strength as they face life’s challenges together. Fatima spends most of her time in the mother's arm and when her sister is around, she plays with her. Fatima Adamu was brought to the hospital by her concerned mother after they noticed she had been running a high fever, coughing frequently, and had a constant runny nose. At just one year old, she appeared unusually tired, restless, and had lost interest in feeding. Her parents became deeply worried when her symptoms didn’t improve. Due to financial constrain, they couldn't afford her proper treatment until Helpster came in. On presentation at our clinic, Fatima was thoroughly reviewed, investigations done and a diagnosis of Malaria, Upper Respiratory Tract Infection, and Mild Anemia was made.

Fatima Adamu was attended to at the hospital on 17/06/2025 with complaints of fever, catarrh, cough, body weakness, and reduced energy levels. Following proper clinical assessment and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with Malaria with Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and Mild Anemia. She was promptly commenced on comprehensive medical treatment. Antimalarial therapy with Artemether was administered to treat malaria, while Erythromycin was given to address the respiratory infection. Paracetamol was used to control fever and body pains, and Piriton together with Loratadine helped relieve respiratory and allergic symptoms. To correct anemia and improve her general health and immunity, supportive medications including Multivite and Astymin were prescribed. Laboratory investigations, including Malaria Parasite (MP) and PCV, were carried out to confirm diagnosis and monitor her condition. Fatima responded very well to treatment. Her fever resolved, respiratory symptoms cleared, strength returned, and her overall clinical condition improved significantly. With continued care and monitoring, she made a full recovery and is now healthy and stable, with no residual symptoms. Their timely intervention removed financial barriers and ensured she received complete and effective medical care. With prompt medical intervention, the prognosis for a child diagnosed with malaria, upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), and mild anemia is generally favorable. Antimalarial therapy, appropriate antimicrobial or supportive treatment for the respiratory infection, and nutritional management for anemia typically result in full recovery. Close monitoring is essential to prevent complications, particularly in infants, who are more vulnerable to rapid deterioration. Early treatment significantly reduces morbidity and the risk of progression to severe disease.
