Karima Sultana is a one-month-old premature twin girl from a poor family of seven living in a small tin-roofed house in Shahrasti, Chandpur. Her father, Kabir Ahmed, once a construction laborer, can barely work after a serious back injury, and her mother, Suraiya Begum, stays home to care for Karima, her twin sister Kaifa—also born premature with ROP—their 2-year-old brother Abdur Rahman, and elderly grandparents who can no longer work. The family’s monthly income of just 6,000 taka is barely enough for food, let alone medical expenses. Despite her tiny frame, Karima is a quiet fighter, but without urgent anti-VEGF treatment, she will lose her eyesight forever, never seeing her family or the world around her. Her parents are pleading for help to save their daughter’s vision and give her a future filled with light instead of darkness.

Karima Sultana, a 1-month-old infant, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a critical condition that can cause permanent vision loss without timely intervention. She was treated with Anti-VEGF injections under the expert supervision of Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment was carried out successfully, and the abnormal blood vessel growth has been effectively controlled. Her retinal health is improving steadily, and doctors are hopeful that Karima will enjoy normal vision in the future.
