Purity Kiplimo is a Form 2 student and currently resides at a Children’s Home. She was admitted to the orphanage following violence from her uncle, with whom she had been living after the death of her father. Her mother has not been involved in her life since separating from her father during her early childhood. The orphanage was introduced to Helpster Charity through a site visit by Tionycare Hospital and a Helpster volunteer (Vincent). She remained in good health until five days ago when she developed heartburn and a runny nose. Additionally, she reports a one-month history of intermittent epigastric pain. She also experiences lower abdominal pain accompanied by pain on urination

Purity Kiplimo presented with epigastric pain, heartburn, lower abdominal discomfort, a running nose, and abnormal per vaginal (PV) discharge. After a thorough clinical evaluation, she was diagnosed with acute gastritis and a urinary tract infection (UTI). Her treatment plan included omeprazole and esomeprazole to reduce stomach acid and relieve the gastritis symptoms, while metronidazole and amoxicillin were prescribed to treat the infection. Paracetamol was given for pain and fever relief, and albendazole was included as a deworming agent to address any underlying parasitic causes. Over the course of treatment, her abdominal pain and heartburn gradually eased, the PV discharge and discomfort resolved, and her general condition improved. With proper medication adherence and rest, Purity made a steady recovery and returned to her normal daily activities in good health.

For the urinary tract infection (UTI), the prognosis is good since the diagnosis was timely and appropriate antibiotic treatment was given. If left untreated, however, the infection may have progressed to recurrent or complicated UTIs, or even kidney involvement. For the gastritis/epigastric pain, the prognosis is also favorable since proper medical evaluation was done and treatment commenced, including dietary adjustments, medication, and counseling on avoidance of aggravating factors.
