Glen is the only child of a single mother. His father abandoned the family before he was born. He lives with his mother in a single-room rental house, for which they pay Ksh 1,000 per month. His mother earns a living by working at a nearby gold mine. When in good health, Glen is playful and sociable, making friends easily. The family first learned about Helpster while at the hospital. One day, his mother noticed that Glen had a fever, and each time he ate, he vomited everything. Concerned, she took him to a nearby chemist, where he was given some medication. The chemist then referred them to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further care.

Glen was brought to the hospital with complaints of fever and vomiting. He was diagnosed with severe anemia and malaria; this prompted admission into the wards for management. He stayed for a number of days in the ward, where he was transfused blood and administered IV artesunate,ceftriaxone , x pen among other medications. Glen responded well to treatment, and before he was even discharged, he was able to walk the corridors and interact with the nurses. He was discharged home on orals and a call to the mother revealed he was doing well and could play with his friends and neighbors.

Glen has been diagnosed with severe anaemia and severe malaria and has already been initiated on treatment. With prompt administration of antimalarial therapy, blood transfusion and supportive care, his condition is expected to stabilize and improve significantly.
