Lavender is a two-month-old baby and the only child of a young high school graduate. She lives in a two-room mud house with her mother, great-grandmother, two uncles, and three aunts. At night, the uncles sleep in the kitchen area, while her mother, aunts, and great-grandmother share the living room. Lavender’s mother and grandmother are unemployed and has always depended on her great-grandmother, who is a peasant farmer but has recently developed partial blindness. One Wednesday evening, Lavender developed a cough and began struggling to breathe. She vomited everything after breastfeeding. Later that night, her hands and feet became extremely cold. By the following morning, she was unable to breastfeed, prompting her mother to rush her to the hospital.

Lavender was brought to the hospital with a history of coughing, vomiting, and difficulty in breathing. She was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and malaria. This warranted admission, where she stayed and was administered zinc sulfate, gentamicin, ORS, and other drugs. She was tolerant of the drugs given, and eventually she got well. A call to the mother revealed that Lavender was recovered and was breastfeeding very well.

Lavender was promptly diagnosed with severe pneumonia and severe malaria. With the initiation of appropriate treatment, her condition has significantly improved, and her prognosis is good.
