Mohammed M., 1

A 1years old child of a taxi driver with very low income earning who lives in Gwange Sabon layi Maiduguri. A playful child, he likes playing with toys and aspires to becoming a lawyer. About 5 months after birth, his parent noticed abnormal swelling around his left scrotum and sometimes is associated with pain and discomfort. Currently, the swelling is non-reducible. Upon presentation and evaluation at our hospital, and after proper investigation he was diagnosed with Inguinal hernia.

Mohammed Mohammed, a 1-year-old male, presented with a 3 months history of reducible inguinoscrotal swelling, occasionally accompanied by pain and mild obstruction. After thorough evaluation, he was diagnosed with left inguinoscrotal hernia. He underwent successful hernial repair surgery without immediate complications. Following a 3-day hospital stay for close monitoring and post-operative care, mohd recovered well and was discharged home with a scheduled follow-up appointment for 1 week. He has since fully recovered and resumed regular activities. We appreciate the timely intervention by Helpster and the UMD Medical team.

Good prognosis if treated before complications. If left untreated, inguinal hernias can lead to complications such as bowel obstruction, strangulation (where blood supply to the herniated tissue is cut off), and significant pain or discomfort. Surgery is the most common treatment for inguinal hernias to repair the weakened area and prevent these potential complications.
