Abdulrahim Z., 9

Abdulrahim is 9 years old. He attends a government primary school close to their community. He along with his friends treks to school. He lives with his parents along with his siblings. They live in a 3 bedroom apartment. The father is a small scale farmer, the mother a housewife. Abdulrahim wishes to be a medical doctor in the future. Despite their financial challenges, being happy with family and friends is what gives them hope. Abdulrahim has been having frontal headache for 2 days, he always feels week and have been coughing producing white sputum. He has been rejecting food. No financial ability to take him to the hospital. They heard about Helpster Charity from a neighbor and reached out to Albishir Clinic for help. They came to be properly examined by the Medical team. Upon presentation and prosper evaluation at our hospital he was diagnosed with Malaria and Respiratory tract infection.

Abdulrahim's illness has been continuous with high grade fever and chills, it was associated with cough which was always during night hours making him to vomit, he also had very low appetite. On examination a young male child ill looking, warm to touch with temperature 37.2o C, tachypneic, anicteric, acyanosed, not jaundiced. He was diagnosed with malaria and respiratory tract infection. Treatment commenced with injection antimalarials, injection antibiotics and other supportive care. Patient became stable after hospital stay; he was discharged with some take home drugs. Patient is to return for follow after 1 week. The family remains grateful to Helpster Charity for the medical support.

With prompt use of effective antimalarial drugs, most malaria cases resolve completely, though delayed or severe infections may cause complications like anemia, organ failure, or even death. Similarly, mild RTIs such as colds usually have an excellent outcome and recover on their own, while severe RTIs like pneumonia or bronchitis can be life-threatening if untreated, especially in children, the elderly, or immunocompromised individuals. Overall, both conditions have a favorable prognosis when managed early and appropriately. For Abdulrahim, early treatment was absolute, there is progressive recovery.
