Maureen M., 12

Maureen Mueni is a 12-year-old, playful girl who lives with her parents in Mkuru kwa Ruben slums. She enjoys playing football and participating in sports activities, aspiring to become a top athlete in the future. Her parents make a living by hawking merchandise along Jogoo Road in Nairobi. Maureen was referred to Helpster Charity through a community health worker who works part-time with Rheemah Hospital. A few days ago, Maureen began experiencing abdominal pain, muscle aches, chills and rigors, headaches, joint pains, and long-standing umbilical discomfort. She was initially taken to a nearby dispensary, where treatment did not bring improvement. Following the advice of the community health worker, she was brought to Rheemah Hospital for further management

Maureen presented with abdominal pain, muscle aches, chills and rigors, high-grade fever, joint pains, persistent headache, and longstanding umbilical pain. She was assessed by the Medical Officer on duty, and following clinical evaluation, she was diagnosed with Helicobacter pylori infection. Prompt treatment was initiated, including a Ceftriaxone injection, Ultraflox, Paracetamol 500 mg, and Ulgicid suspension 200 ml. She showed significant clinical improvement and was discharged home on the same day. A follow-up call conducted a few days later confirmed that she had returned to her playful self and was back in school.

Prognosis is good. Assessment done by medical officer and was diagnosed with Helicobacter H-pylori. prompt treatment began and Maureen improved.
