Na'ima A., 21

Na'ima is 21 years old, she was living with her grandmother before she recently died. Her parents are divorced, she only had her secondary school education, but she cannot further her education because there is no one to sponsor her. She has been living in the apartment where her grandparents owned with the rest of members of the extended family. Their source of water is from the well, no access to electricity. She was well until 2 years ago when she noticed the breast swelling. Swelling was first noticed on the left breast while doing self-examination, there have not been significant increase in size however the right ones have slightly decreased in size. No pain or skin changes. There is family history of uterine cancer in her family but no breast cancer. On presentation at our hospital, she was evaluated, had ultrasound scan of the breast done which revealed Multiple Fibroadenoma. She requires urgent excision and biospy.

Naima Abdulhamid is a 21 years old female who presented with multiple breast lumps. Examination revealed two breast lump each on her breasts bilaterally. They were freely mobile, nontender with no skin changes. She had bilateral breast lumpectomy and histology showed fibroadenomata. She did well post op and was discharged five days following surgery. She had been on follow up with no untoward incident. Wounds have both healed.

Management is usually conservative with regular monitoring, but surgical removal may be considered if the fibroadenomas are large, symptomatic, or cosmetically concerning. Family history of uterine cancer and multiple breast lump in this Na'ima increases chances of breast cancer hence need for prompt surgical excision and histological examination.
