Abigael is a Form Two student at a local public day secondary school. Although she has missed several classes due to frequent asthma attacks, she remains one of the brightest students, with dreams of becoming a medical professional in the future. Her father, a boda boda rider, earns less than Ksh 100 per day, which he uses to cover school fees and basic family needs. Unfortunately, this small income is insufficient to afford consistent medical care. Abigael, a known asthmatic on Ventoline inhaler, began experiencing worsening symptoms over the past two days, including cough, chest congestion, and difficulty in breathing accompanied by wheezing. Concerned about her condition, her family took her to the hospital, where she was examined and diagnosed with severe pneumonia on top of her asthma. She had an asthmatic attack. They did not have money and were worried that if admitted, they will not be able to pay the medical bill. Upon advice from the village administrator, Abigael’s family sought assistance from Helpster Charity, where she was assessed and enrolled, allowing her to receive free medical care and support. She was nebulized and admitted for inpatient treatment.

Abigael is a known asthmatic patient, she came to the hospital with complains of cough associated with chest congestion, wheezing and difficulty in breathing . On examination she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and asthmatic attack, she was Nebulised, given i.v hydrocortisone,i.v amoxclave, p.o prednisolone and other emergency management were done. She responded on medication and gradually getting better and finally got fully recovered and discharged on a stable condition.

With prompt hospital admission, appropriate treatment for both asthma and severe pneumonia, and ongoing support from Helpster Charity, Abigael’s prognosis is good. The nebulization and inpatient care will help relieve airway constriction and restore normal breathing. Antibiotic therapy and supportive measures will aid in resolving the pneumonia. As a known asthmatic, she will need continued follow-up and adherence to her asthma management plan to prevent future attacks.
