One-month-old Jafrin Islam, a delicate and beautiful twin baby, was born underweight at 2.1 kg alongside her brother Jayan, who also weighed just 1.9 kg. Their young mother, Afroza Begum, only 19 years old, is struggling alone to care for them, as their father, Raju Molla, has been stranded in Bahrain after falling victim to human trafficking. The family survives solely on the meager earnings of their grandfather, Shofiq Molla, who runs a small tea stall and earns only BDT 7,000 per month to support six family members. Tragically, both Jafrin and Jayan have been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a serious condition that can cause permanent blindness if not treated immediately. Jafrin Islam, a 1-month-old infant, required urgent treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to prevent permanent vision loss. The condition was identified early, and Anti-VEGF injections were administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully monitored, and Jafrin responded well to the injections. Over time, the abnormal growth of blood vessels came under control. Her retinal condition has shown clear improvement during follow-up examinations. There is strong hope that she will develop clear and healthy vision as she grows. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Baby Jafrin needs immediate Anti-VEGF injections in both eyes, followed by strict follow-up care. The doctors are confident that if treated promptly, Jafrin’s vision can be preserved, and she will be able to grow up seeing the beauty of the world around her. However, if her condition is left untreated due to financial barriers, she faces the risk of going permanently blind at such a tender age. This would not only rob her of her childhood but also create lifelong challenges for her education and future.
