Omar Faruk, an 8-year-old boy from a poor family living in a small slum in Dhaka, is fighting a painful battle with a rare congenital condition. His father, a daily labourer earning barely 8,000 BDT a month, struggles to feed their family of six, leaving no means to afford Omar’s life-changing surgery. Despite his illness, Omar remains cheerful and kind-hearted, often drawing pictures and telling stories to his younger siblings. But his condition is worsening—each day, urination becomes more painful, and infection risks increase, which could damage his kidneys or threaten his life. Without timely surgery, this bright little boy’s dream of growing up healthy and educated to help others may slip away.

The patient Omar Faruk, aged 8 years, was admitted to Olympus Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd., Dhaka with a diagnosis of UC fistula with a history of urethroplasty and distal disruption. He initially underwent his first surgical procedure, after which he was discharged on 25 September 2025; however, due to ongoing complications, further medical intervention was required. The child was re-admitted and underwent a second corrective surgery on 10 December 2025 under general anesthesia, which was successfully performed. Following close post-operative monitoring and steady clinical improvement, the patient was finally discharged in stable condition on 24 December 2025 with detailed medical advice for continued care at home. The doctor’s prognosis is hopeful—after completing the full course of treatment, including infection control, correction of anemia, bilateral orchiopexy, and the two-stage Bracka repair, Omar is expected to regain normal urination and improved genital function. These surgeries will also reduce the risk of recurring infections, pain, and future fertility problems. With proper post-operative care and nutrition, he can live a healthy and active life like other children. However, if left untreated, Omar may continue to suffer from painful urination, repeated infections, and potential kidney damage, leading to serious long-term complications and poor quality of life.
