Elector Anumo is a 17-year-old girl who enjoys watching cartoons and lives with her mother in a small makeshift house in the busy Mukuru kwa Jenga slums. Her mother does manual labor to support the family. Despite their challenging environment, the family is loving and supportive. Elector enjoys dancing with other children and aspires to become a lawyer in the future. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a Community Health Promoter at Rheemah Hospital. Elector had been healthy until a few days ago when she developed urinary symptoms and lower abdominal pain. Her condition worsened, prompting her mother to bring her to Rheemah Hospital. Following clinical evaluation and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection in pregnancy and anemia. Appropriate treatment was started promptly. A follow-up home visit was later conducted to assess Elector’s living conditions.

Elector was well until few days ago when he developed itching, thick discharge and lower abdominal pain. He was brought to Rheemah Hospital after the condition worsened. Thorough test and examinations was done by medical officer and Elector was diagnosed with UTI in pregnancy and Anemia. Prompt treatment was initiated and Elector well being drastically improved. Days later the mother said that Elector is smiling again and back to school again.

With early diagnosis and timely initiation of appropriate treatment, Elector’s prognosis is good. The urinary tract infection is expected to resolve fully with adherence to the prescribed medication, and the anemia should improve with proper treatment, nutrition, and follow-up care. Continued antenatal monitoring and social support, including linkage to Antenatal clinic, will further enhance maternal and fetal outcomes and reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy.
