The Rishi family’s joy quickly turned into heartbreak as their newborn now fights for life in the NICU. Due to financial distress, Anita had no choice but to give birth at home through a normal delivery with the help of a traditional birth attendant. The family lives in a single broken tin room with a soil floor, struggling each day to survive. Joy, a poor day laborer, earns barely enough to buy food, while Anita devotes herself to caring for their first and only child. Now, with no savings and rising hospital bills, they fear losing their baby — for without urgent treatment, he could suffer brain damage or even lose his life. Yet, in their fragile home, Anita and Joy continue to pray with all their hearts for a miracle to save their little boy.

The baby was admitted directly to the NICU on 26th September 2025 with severe birth asphyxia and respiratory distress. The medical team provided intensive treatment, including oxygen therapy, ventilator support, and medications to control convulsions and stabilize his vital signs. For a short while, there were hopeful signs as his breathing improved and his parents clung to faith. Sadly, despite all medical efforts, the baby’s condition suddenly deteriorated, and he passed away on 28th September 2025 at 7:40 PM due to type 2 respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. Anita and Joy Rishi, though heartbroken, expressed their deepest gratitude to Helpster, its compassionate volunteers, and USB specialized hospital for their timely support, care, and kindness during their most difficult time.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sadia Binte Rahman, timely and continuous NICU treatment could help the baby gradually recover his breathing and brain function, giving him a chance to live a normal, healthy life. With proper medical support, the effects of oxygen deprivation may be reduced, allowing the child to develop and grow without severe long-term complications. However, if left untreated, the baby risks worsening brain damage, permanent disability, or even death due to ongoing respiratory failure and metabolic imbalance. Early intervention and sustained care are therefore critical to saving his life and giving him the opportunity for a hopeful future.
