Mahmudul Islam, a 12-year-old boy from Sundarban, Gaibandha, lives in a small tin house with his parents and two siblings. His father, a poor day laborer earning only 8,000 BDT a month, struggles to afford even daily necessities, making it impossible for the family to bear the high cost of hospital and ICU treatment. Mahmudul’s chief complaint began with a high fever, followed by severe headache, repeated convulsions, vomiting, and episodes of bleeding. Doctors later diagnosed him with meningitis, a life-threatening infection of the brain and spinal cord that requires urgent treatment. Without timely care, he could suffer permanent brain damage, paralysis, or even death, but with support, this kind-hearted boy—who dreams of becoming a Moulana and serving his community—has a chance to recover and live a meaningful life.

Mahmudul Islam, a 12-year-old boy, was admitted to Olympus Hospital on 28/09/2025 with high fever, severe headaches, repeated convulsions, vomiting, coughing, and episodes of bleeding. He was immediately admitted to the ICU and diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis with Meningitis. During his stay, he received intensive care including broad-spectrum antibiotics, management of convulsions, supportive therapy, and close monitoring of his vital and metabolic parameters. Gradually, his condition improved, and he was discharged on 10/10/2025 with full recovery advice. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Helpster and their volunteers, as well as the doctors and staff of Olympus Hospital, for their dedicated support and timely care that made his recovery possible.

Doctors have explained that with timely and continuous ICU care — including control of fever and convulsions, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and correction of metabolic and blood imbalances — Mahmudul has a strong chance to recover and regain his health. He was initially treated in the ICU for eight days, after which his condition improved, allowing him to be shifted to a general ward for four more days of observation and care. The planned lumbar puncture and brain MRI will help assess the extent of brain involvement and guide further treatment. If managed properly, his condition can continue to stabilize, enabling him to return to a normal life over time. However, without such intensive medical support, the infection could spread rapidly, leading to severe brain injury, coma, or even death. Early and sustained intervention remains his only hope for full recovery.
