Baby Shihab Hossain was born at just 29 weeks, weighing only 800 grams, and is now fighting for his life in the NICU, struggling to breathe and survive without constant medical support. As one of four premature siblings, his tiny body needs continuous oxygen, antibiotics, and special nutrition, without which he could face severe infection, breathing failure, lifelong disability, or even death. His father, Tarek, earns a very small salary as a salesman in a local cosmetic shop, while his mother, Tanjina, is a homemaker caring for the other fragile babies. With four newborns, mounting hospital bills, and only a small rented room to live in, the family’s income is nowhere near enough to pay for Shihab’s critical treatment. Now, this young family—parents and four tiny babies—are desperately seeking help so that Shihab can survive and one day go home in his parents’ arms alongside his siblings.

Baby Shihab Hossain was admitted to the NICU on 28th September 2025, where he received intensive care for 32 days. With the support of Helpster Charity Bangladesh, his treatment continued smoothly, covering essential costs like oxygen therapy, surfactant treatment, antibiotics, and nutritional support. Gradually, Shihab’s breathing improved, his oxygen needs lessened, and he began to feed well through the NG tube. On 1st November 2025, he was discharged with medical advice for continued care at home. His parents expressed deep gratitude to Helpster for making his recovery possible and giving them renewed hope.

Baby Shihab Hossain requires continued intensive care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), including respiratory support, surfactant therapy, and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) to manage his Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) and extremely low birth weight. The treatment plan focuses on maintaining oxygen saturation, preventing infections, stabilizing body temperature, and gradually transitioning to oral feeding once tolerated. Continuous monitoring of vital signs and blood parameters is essential to detect complications early. With proper medical management, Shihab’s condition is expected to improve gradually, allowing his lungs and organs to mature. However, without this specialized NICU care, the baby faces a high risk of respiratory failure, infection, and potentially life-threatening complications.
