Background

Fatima A 19 year old girl who leaves with her parents at katamma village they leave together with her parents her father was a farmer. They heard of Helpster from the community members and volunteer. Fatima Musa Katuzu was admitted to Ayaji hospital with a month-long history of fever, headache, chills and rigors. When she arrived she was pale. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, she was diagnosed with severe Malaria.

Medical history

Fatima was brought to the hospital with complaints of high-grade fever, weakness, loss of appetite, and general body malaise. On arrival, he appeared ill and required urgent medical attention. A comprehensive clinical assessment was conducted, and prompt treatment was initiated to stabilize his condition. He was started on appropriate antimalarial therapy, such as artemisinin-based combination treatment (ACT), alongside supportive care. Intravenous fluids were administered to maintain adequate hydration, while antipyretics like paracetamol were given to control the fever. His vital signs were closely monitored throughout treatment, and nutritional support was encouraged to promote recovery. During the course of management, the child showed rapid and steady improvement. The fever subsided, his appetite returned, and his level of activity increased significantly. There were no complications observed, and his response to treatment was very satisfactory. As his condition improved, he was transitioned to oral medications to complete the treatment regimen. He continued to recover well, regained his strength, and resumed normal daily activities. Overall, the child made a full recovery and was discharged in stable condition. Caregivers were advised on strict adherence to prescribed medications, maintaining proper nutrition, and attending follow-up visits to ensure complete recovery and prevent recurrence.

Outcome

Fatima Musa Katuzu was diagnosed with an severe malaria, A Severe malaria is a medical emergency and a potentially life-threatening condition. It requires immediate, aggressive treatment. the doctor's opinion is that she had a life-threatening illness requiring urgent intervention, but the prognosis is currently positive given the documented clinical improvement and stable condition following one day of admission and treatment. Continued observation will be necessary to complete the course of therapy and ensure a full recovery without sequelae.
