Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Little Kanisa Islam is a fragile one-month-old premature baby girl born into a loving but struggling family in Faridganj, Chandpur. Her father, Kabir Hossain, earns only 9,000 Taka per month as an electrician, which is barely enough to provide food, shelter, and care for their five children, making the urgent BDT 18,000 eye treatment completely out of reach. Kanisa, who survived premature birth and high-flow oxygen therapy, now faces Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, which could cause permanent blindness without immediate Anti-VEGF injections. Her devoted mother, Lipi Akter, her surviving twin sister Kaifa, older siblings Siam and Anisha, and her extended family anxiously hope to save her eyesight and allow her to grow up healthy and playful. Without prompt treatment, Kanisa risks losing her vision forever, leaving the family heartbroken and helpless to protect their little girl’s bright future.

Medical history

Kanisa Islam, a 1-month-old baby girl, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can seriously affect vision if not treated promptly. To manage the abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels, Anti-VEGF injections were administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was carried out with great care, and Kanisa was closely monitored during follow-up visits. She responded well to the injections, showing steady improvement in her retinal condition. The abnormal blood vessel growth is now under control, and her retina is gradually stabilizing. Doctors remain hopeful that she will develop clear vision as she grows. Sincere thanks to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for their generous support in helping safeguard her eyesight.

Outcome

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, baby Kanisa Islam needs immediate treatment with Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes. They have advised that the treatment should not be delayed, as time is critical in preventing permanent vision loss. With timely intervention, Kanisa’s eyesight can be saved, and she will be able to grow up with normal vision. The doctors are confident that after the injections and routine follow-ups, her retina will develop properly and her vision can be restored. However, if the treatment is delayed or skipped due to financial constraints, the prognosis is poor — her eyesight may deteriorate rapidly, leading to total and irreversible blindness. The medical team has emphasized the urgency of this treatment to secure Kanisa’s vision and ensure her healthy visual development. Baby Kanisa Islam is fighting for her sight. Her parents, overwhelmed with worry and love, dream of seeing her eyes open fully to the world. But with their extremely limited income, they are helpless to afford the BDT 18,000 needed for her urgent eye treatment and follow-up care. They humbly seek the kind assistance of Helpster Charity and compassionate donors to give their little girl the gift of sight — a chance to see her family, play with her siblings, and grow up with hope. Your generous support will not only help restore Kanisa’s vision but will also change the course of her life forever. Every contribution can make a difference and help this innocent child live a life full of light, learning, and possibilities.
