Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Baby Mohammad Abdullah is a fragile and precious 1-month-old premature child who has already endured more suffering than most infants his age, yet his quiet strength reflects the hopes his family holds for him. His father, a carpenter with irregular work earning barely 7,000 taka a month, supports the entire household — including Abdullah’s mother, two school-going brothers, and elderly grandfather — leaving them unable to afford the urgent eye treatment he desperately needs. Born at just 34 weeks and weighing only 1,700 grams, Abdullah required NICU care and high-flow oxygen to save his life, but this life-saving intervention has now caused Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), putting him at risk of permanent blindness. Without timely Anti-VEGF injections, the abnormal blood vessels in his eyes may worsen, leading to irreversible vision loss and depriving him of the chance to see the world he has just entered. Learning about Helpster Charity from the hospital counselor has become the family’s only ray of hope to protect Abdullah’s sight and secure a brighter future for him.

Medical history

Mohammad Abdullah, a 1-month-old baby girl, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that posed a serious risk to her developing vision. Immediate treatment was necessary to prevent long-term damage, and she received Anti-VEGF injections administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The procedure was carried out with great care, and her condition was closely observed through regular follow-up visits. He responded positively to the treatment, with gradual improvement seen in her retinal condition. The abnormal blood vessel growth has now been brought under control. His retinal health is improving steadily, giving hope for normal vision development. Heartfelt thanks to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for their generous support in helping protect her eyesight.

Outcome

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, baby Abdullah needs urgent Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes, followed by regular follow-up examinations to ensure proper retinal development. The doctors have stated that if treatment is started immediately, Abdullah’s eyesight can be effectively preserved, allowing him to grow up with normal vision and lead a healthy, fulfilling life. However, if the condition remains untreated, it may rapidly progress, causing severe retinal damage and permanent blindness. This would not only rob Abdullah of his vision but also bring lifelong hardship to the family, both emotionally and financially. The doctors have strongly emphasized that timely treatment is essential to prevent blindness and ensure a positive visual outcome.
