Mayalawas I., 15

Mayalawas is a 15 years old male child living with his parents. He is in government junior secondary school. He wishes to study and become a medical doctor in future. The father is a farmer and the mother is a petty trader, they're working very hard to provide food and education for their children. They live in a rented apartment with 2 rooms and a single toilet. They make use of water from the borehole for their daily activities, they have access to electricity. Patient presented with high grade fever, severe lower abdominal pain with associated loss of appetite and headache which has persisted for one week despite self treatment. Examination revealed an acutely ill looking male with temperature of 40 degree Celsius tenderness over the right lower abdomen extending to mid abdomen. Widal test shows significant tire and FBC shows leucocytosis and anaemia. No money to take him to the hospital that is they seek help from Helpster charity through a recent church outreach. Diagnosis of Acute Malaria and Enteric fever was made. Patient was treated as such.

Mayalawas - 15 years old male presented to WholeCare facility with fever and abdominal pains for days, he was admitted and diagnosed with enteric fever. Treatment commenced with injection antibiotics and other supportive medications, after few days patient was stable and discharged with some take home drugs to further support the duration of medication. Family are thankful to Helpster Charity for their medical support.

The prognosis of concurrent malaria and enteric fever is variable and largely dependent on the timeliness of diagnosis, the severity of parasitemia, and the extent of systemic involvement caused by Salmonella infection. With prompt initiation of effective antimalarial therapy, appropriate antibiotics, adequate hydration, and vigilant monitoring for complications such as severe anemia, hepatic dysfunction, or septicemia, most patients recover fully. However, delayed presentation, high parasite load, antimicrobial resistance, and comorbid conditions can significantly worsen outcomes, increasing the risk of prolonged illness or organ impairment. Early recognition, targeted treatment, and adherence to follow-up care remain critical determinants of a favorable prognosis.
