Obadia Guio is a 21‑year‑old young adult living in Makoko, a very impoverished area in Lagos State, Nigeria. During the Meyiwavera medical outreach program, conducted in partnership with Helpster Charity in Makoko, participants were being screened, and Obadia was one of those individuals. This type of community health initiative is crucial in underserved areas, as it can identify people who might otherwise go undiagnosed and untreated. Obadia was presented at our hospital for further evaluation after being referred to our facility from the Makoko medical outreach. He had no immediate complaint but underwent further assessment. Upon presentation at our hospital and after clinical evaluation, he was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia with a severely low hemoglobin level of 5, requiring urgent life‑saving medical intervention. Laboratory results confirm Sickle Cell Disease (Hb SS), anemia, and an elevated white blood cell count (indicating sepsis).

Master Guidi Obadia was referred to Atlantis Pediatric Hospital by Helpster Charity for specialized medical attention regarding sickle-cell disease and associated anemia. Upon his arrival, he was evaluated in the General Pediatric department. Following a thorough physical examination, lab investigations (including a complete blood count and urinalysis), and expert consultation, Guidi was prescribed essential medications such as Folic Acid, Vitamin B Complex, Proguanil, and Penicillin V to support his health and daily management. With the dedicated care and guidance provided at Atlantis Pediatric Hospital, alongside the invaluable referral and support from Helpster Charity, Guidi stabilized during his visit and is on a steady path toward improved health and wellbeing

Guidi has severe anemia that requires urgent medical intervention to avoid complications of anemia. He has sickle cell disease with markedly low hemoglobin (Hb 5.89) and an elevated white cell count, though he is currently without major symptoms and has no urine infection. Laboratory findings shows Sickle Cell Disease (HB SS), Anaemia , Elevated White Blood Cell Count (sepsis) With strict medication adherence, good hydration, and regular medical review, his condition can be managed, but the anemia needs careful monitoring and optimization.
