Elser S., 21

Elser is a 21 year old female adult currently studying at federal polytechnic Bauchi, she is staying with her aunt to help with some chores, the aunt is a widow living in a rented apartment with 3 of her kids, she is a teacher at a primary school. Elser's burns was due to camp gas explosion, she presented to WholeCare 4 weeks after it occured, however she received immediate post injury care in a government facility. Elser Samson who presented with burns injury to her upper limbs bilaterally, the trunk and the face. The wounds on the forearm and wrists are deep with complete loss of skin. She has been struggling with care until she heard about Helpster Charity. On examination, the wound is foul smelling, full thickness skin loss on the forearm and the wrists bilaterally. On presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, she was diagnosed with Bilateral Upper Limbs Flame Burns. She was on wound dressing, antibiotics and physiotherapy prior to wound debridement and skin grafting. Wound requires emergency debridement and skin grafting to prevent septicemia (spread of infection to the blood) and risk of contracture of the affected wrist.

Wound had an emergency debridement and skin grafting to prevent septicaemia (spread of infection to the blood) and risk of contracture of the affected wrist. Patient had a successful surgery, wound was managed after hospital stay, no more foul smell and no skin contractures until patient was discharged The family are grateful to Helpster Charity for supporting the child.

Wound requires emergency debriment and skin grafting to prevent septicaemia (spread of infection to the blood) and risk of contracture of the affected wrist. However management of wound at affected areas has commenced to reduce pains on patients.
