Paul Y., 20

Paul, a 20 years young adult is living with his parents, he graduated from secondary school about a year ago and is hoping to further his academics in a Nigerian tertiary institution. Parents are advanced in age, father is retired and mother is a house wife. Paul was in his usual state of health until two months ago when he started having right sided headache, followed by right ear pain and discharge of purulent fluid. He also admitted to having impaired hearing on the affected ear. There was a period of fever. Examination revealed purulent discharge from the right ear. Family cannot afford his medical bills, some months ago we as Helpster Charity volunteers reached out to the community and left pamphlets which they used to contact us and we invited them to our facility. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, a diagnosis of Right Ear Otitis Media was made.

Paul a 20 years male was in his usual state of health until two months ago when he started having right sided headache, followed by right ear pain and discharge of purulent fluid. He was admitted and served with some antibiotics and ear toiletings for 7 days, patient did well and responded to treatment, patient was scheduled for follow up as to give close monitoring to enseure brain is not affected, the family extend their gratitude to Helpster Charity.

With early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment, the prognosis of right ear otitis media is excellent. Most patients recover fully without long-term hearing loss. However, delayed or inadequate treatment may lead to complications such as mastoiditis, tympanic membrane perforation, or chronic otitis media. Regular follow-up ensures resolution and prevents recurrence or persistent middle ear effusion. This patient could suffer hearing loss and abscess sipping into the brain causing brain damage if not promptly treated.
