Baba A., 19

A 19-year-old male dedicated student, the third of ten children of his parent, balances his studies with a passion for playing football and assisting his parents on the family farm. He dreams of a future career in civil service. Baba was well until a month ago when he fell ill and visited a local chemist. He was diagnosed with severe malaria and given an antimalarial injection in his right buttock. However, a few days later, he developed progressive swelling and pain in the same area, accompanied by fever. Despite being prescribed antibiotics and painkillers, and using ice packs, his symptoms persisted, depleting their finances. Eventually, they sought help from the UMD Medical clinic. Upon presentation at our hospital, and after further clinical evaluation, he was diagnosed with a gluteal abscess and scheduled for incision and drainage (I&D).

BABA ALHAJI SHEHU ARFO,MALE,AGE 19 YRARS OLD After falling seriously ill with fever, loss of appetite,headache,Baba was taken a local chemist where he received injection for the treatment of malaria and after one month,he developed bottock swelling and pain due to complication. His family, worried and without enough money for treatment, turned to Helpster Charity for support. Thanks to Helpster Charity, Baba was evaluated and investigated in UMD hospital and diagnosed with GLUTEAL ABSCESS. He was admitted and underwent Incision and Drainage(I&D) with antibiotics and other supportive injections in the hospital for 3 days. Slowly, he recovered, symptoms subsided, and he regained his strength. He was discharged home with his parents, and he can resume his regular activities. Baba and his family are deeply thankful to Helpster Charity for their kindness and timely help that gave him a second chance at health and hope.

The prognosis for a gluteal abscess that Baba has is generally good with prompt and proper treatment. Baba's treatment was incision and drainage (I&D), a minor surgical procedure where a small cut is made to create an opening, allowing removal of the abscess (pus) and thorough washing out of dead tissue. This intervention will improve Ali's wellbeing, prevent complications, and reduce the risk of chronic infection or spread of infection to other parts of the body, which can be life-threatening if left untreated.
