Mst. Sharifa Begum is a kind and resilient 34-year-old homemaker who finds joy in cooking, even while living in deep poverty with her husband, a day laborer earning only 6000 taka to support their family of four. As she entered her ninth month of pregnancy, Sharifa developed severe lower abdominal pain, reduced fetal movement, constipation, and was found to have a breech presentation, which is especially dangerous because she previously underwent a cesarean section. Doctors at the government hospital warned that without an urgent C-section, the breech position and her complications could put both Sharifa and her unborn baby at serious risk of losing their lives. With barely enough income to feed the family — including her 11-year-old son and widowed sister-in-law — they had no way to afford the necessary surgery.
