Hauwa A., 14

Hauwa Adamu is a lively fourteen-year-old girl with a warm and caring personality. She enjoys helping her mother in the kitchen and taking care of her younger siblings. Hauwa loves reading and has a passion for storytelling, often entertaining her friends with imaginative tales. Hauwa was healthy until three days ago when she developed a high-grade fever accompanied by chills and intense body weakness. She became very lethargic and refused to eat, and her parents noticed she was vomiting intermittently. On the second day, her lips appeared pale, dry and she complained of severe headache and dizziness. Concerned, her parents brought her to the hospital. On presentation at our hospital, and after further evaluation, she was diagnosed with severe malaria, and she was started on intravenous antimalarial therapy with close monitoring, including hydration, fever management, and monitoring for complications, was initiated.

After falling seriously ill with high grade fever, accompanied by chills,and intense body weakness and became lethargic and refused to eat.Her parent noticed she is vomiting and her lips became dry.Hauwa struggled to keep up with school and daily life. Her family, worried and without enough money for treatment, turned to Helpster Charity for support. Thanks to Helpster Charity, Hauwa was evaluated and investigated in UMD hospital and diagnosed with Severe Malaria. She was admitted and had antimalarials injections, intravenous fluids and other supportive treatment in the hospital for 3 days. Slowly, she recovered, symptoms subsided, and she regained her strength.She was discharged home with her parents, and she can return to school. Hauwa and her family are deeply thankful to Helpster Charity for their kindness and timely help that gave her a second chance at health and hope.

Hauwa's condition is critical due to complications from poor management at home. However, with proper hospital care, the prognosis is likely good. She's currently receiving antimalarial medication, intravenous fluids, and close monitoring to manage her life-threatening condition and support her recovery.
