Mst. Sumaiya Akhtar is a courageous 16-year-old housewife living with her husband Md. Israfil, his parents, and a younger sister-in-law in a poor farming household that survives on a monthly income of only 8,000 taka. Despite her young age and difficult circumstances, she is responsible and determined, hoping to recover quickly and continue caring for her family. Now 38 weeks pregnant, Sumaiya has been diagnosed with a ruptured appendicitis along with a breech-presenting pregnancy, a life-threatening combination for both mother and unborn child. Without urgent surgical intervention, the infection could spread rapidly, leading to sepsis, pregnancy complications, or loss of life for both mother and baby. Unable to afford emergency surgery, the family sought help after learning from Nurse Kulsum about Helpster, and with the guidance of Helpster volunteer Bablu Abdullah, they reached out as their last hope for survival.

Most Sumaiya Akhtar was admitted to the hospital on January 04, 2026, with right sided abdominal pain and first time pregnancy. After diagnoses, she was found with appendicitis problem and Breech Presentation. On the same day, doctor conducted Appendectomy and LUCS. After five days, she was discharged on January 09, 2026, in good health. Her husband and mother came to the hospital to receive her and her child. The family expressed their gratitude to Helpster, Mother Clinic and, Md Abdullah Miah for their treatment and support. Her husband was especially thankful for the financial assistance provided by Helpster.

Doctors have advised urgent laparotomy with removal of the ruptured appendix, thorough cleaning of the abdominal infection, along with LUCS to safely deliver the baby. With timely surgery, the infection can be controlled, the mother’s life can be saved, and the baby can be delivered safely despite the breech position. Successful treatment will allow Sumaiya to recover fully and care for her newborn and family. However, if this treatment is not done immediately, the infection from the burst appendix can spread throughout her body, leading to severe blood infection (sepsis), organ failure, or death. The unborn baby is also at high risk of distress or death, making this combined surgery absolutely life-saving for both mother and child.
