Elizabeth A., 18

Elizabeth is an 18-year-old young woman who lives with her boyfriend in a single-room house. She dropped out of high school while in Form Three and is currently unemployed, relying on her boyfriend, who survives on occasional menial jobs, for their daily needs. When she is well, Elizabeth enjoys singing and hopes to one day become a business owner. Elizabeth learned about Helpster Charity after seeing a poster at the dispensary where she attended her antenatal care (ANC) clinics. After noticing early signs of pregnancy, she informed her boyfriend and began attending ANC services. She completed five ANC visits and went into labour before her 6th ANC visit. She was taken to a nearby dispensary, but due to developing complications, she was referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital. At Siaya County Referral Hospital, Elizabeth was scheduled for and underwent an emergency caeserean section after diagnosis of obstructed labour and fetal distress. Sadly, the newborn developed complications shortly after birth and, despite medical efforts, passed away.

Elizabeth was admitted at Siaya County Referral Hospital after prolonged labour. She underwent emergency caesarean surgery but unfortunately she lost the baby. Post surgery she was administered ceftriaxone, oxytocin, flagyl, normal saline among other drugs. She responded well to treatment and was eventually discharged

Elizabeth’s overall prognosis is good, as she survived a complicated labor and emergency cesarean section. Physically, with appropriate post-operative care, she is expected to recover fully from the surgery. Emotional and psychological support is essential, however, given the traumatic loss of her newborn, which may put her at risk for postpartum depression or anxiety. With proper counseling, follow-up care, and support from family or community services like Helpster Charity, Elizabeth can regain her physical health and cope with the emotional trauma.
